My Trip to Trimble Dimensions 2022 in Las Vegas
Uhh. You have the lever extension selected. 2m+ lever extension, the imput height is what you measure the hypotunse distance to the lever extension. You cant put 2m in your case here because that will be in correct, since the measurement is a actually longer
LOL… Surveyors! We over think everything. Fixed Ht tripod is 2 meters (6.562ft). What am I measuring? The lever extension is for a tripod. Maybe if I pulled a tape but I am not.
@@SurveyingWithRobertFor your base, it has the lever extension piece on it? 6.562ft is 2m, but you're telling access it's 2m to the lever of the extension when it's actually like 2.02m or whatever at that height. If you don't measure then you should use bottom of quick release, 2m+ the height of the lever extension bracket (.15m?)
@TroubledKiwi if I measure with a tape maybe. You are overthinking it. Nothing is or needs to be corrected. The center mast is 2m. The software knows the height of the lever extension and the phase center of the antenna which is where the measurement actually goes to. You can see this in the raw data. With the older antennas you had a special rod to measure with. Also at 2m height there is not enough slant to correct like if you were 4ft off the ground.
@@SurveyingWithRobert indeed likely the answer in similar within reason at the end. I would be curious what the HI difference is if you set it 2m@ lever extension or 2.15m@bottom.of quick release when using the lever extension. I'll have to look, it's probably small.
@@TroubledKiwi I would think it would be. Maybe I do a short on that.
Today, too many alternatives exist, with at least the same or even better performance, which you can buy less than a year of this subscription. Sorry, but these receivers are extremely overpriced. I work these days with an r12i and a CNC nav i73, and I see no difference.
CHCNav will beat them all. Just matter of time...
Guess you haven’t been keeping up with what’s happening in the world with PRC products. I could show you a document from the federal government about using those types of receivers. Good receivers just where they are made.
But you did spill a bit 😅😅😅
I did 😉
I thought a 29.99 recurring charge was bad.
I don't work with Trimble so I need to ask: the difference shown in the video is the software trying to bring the total station shots to grid using or the GNSS shots to ground or because you have made the stake out with GNSS and using -99.999 elevation? I've got a little bit confused in what's going on. I don't know NAD83, but he distortion is not enough to be needed to convert the projected coordinates to PTL before settting out? Thanks
The software is looking at those elevations and creating a slope distance. Think of it as standing on a cliff. Only a few feet away but a long way down. Does that help?
By the way this is not a Trimble issue. This is a surveying issue. Software doesn’t matter.
any book for training pdf x7
Are you looking for a training class?
What if u dont have tbc completely unlocked.. and u have to send to opus
used to work with r10, loved them. you could felt the quality. really miss them.
Great boxes. R12’s are amazing
Appreciate this robert, thanks
I have a question, my company uses Carlson command codes, B “begin” and E “end” the command codes are entered before the code so I get linework but Trimble doesn’t seem to recognize my command code is there a setting in Trimble where I can tell it that I’m putting the command code in front of the the code?
Hey Robert, have you had any experience with geomax xpad tablets?
I have not
@@SurveyingWithRobert I like using distance offsetting in Trimble access this is really useful though at my company we use Trimble but only for the robotic total station, we have a geomax tablet with egps which gives us two data collectors so sometimes that is useful because I can get my helper to use the gps for one thing and I the party chief will use the Trimble but I still think the Trimble r12 is far superior we rented the r12i for a 400 acre bathemetric survey last winter and I would really love to have one.
Not quite related, but I always enjoyed helping the guys running 3D machine control that didn’t understand why their distances from the lines were off by several hundred feet. …data exported from the office with no heights… 😅
I have an interview tomorrow for a Land Surveying company. The guy told me to check out your videos so here i am. Ive occasionally seen people with tripods on the side of the road and i knew they were Surveying. But its cool to see more in depth what they were doing exactly.
Check out my instagram and tic-toc accounts also LinkedIn
What company are you interviewing with?
McKnight and Associates P.C.
My phone number is on my website. Give me a call
It didn't take much research to figure out why your comparing the two in such outrageous ways. Let's go over how they both came to be again. Is that how they do business up in Canada? Buy American.
Glad you liked video!
Magnetic feet? lol for what? So it can get stuck. If I see a layout guy trying to set a point inside a rebar cage I'll check the drawing just to be sure before calling him and his Foreman into my office with all of their tools. If you're a Surveyor I won't have to explain, to everyone else don't be fooled by this. I couldn't watch another second. You would want a smaller, more accurate bubble? Lmao. At least the red one looks designed for layout. That other contraption looks like it would pull possum if you grabbed it wrong. Not trying to wreck you're little laser party but man we need these guys puttin points on the ground not trying to get followers on ig. And I'll bet that screw on the side tightens those legs. I'll bet that one with all the bells and whistles is a cheap knockoff its hard to make it out right but is that a patent on the red one?
Lucky for you these are not a requirement just an option 😉
3:49 Nice green scree.... I mean "shop"! 😂

Thank you! This is probably the most helpful video I've found! Coming from using Leica only the Past 7 years. I'll be checking out more videos!
Robert have you figured out a way to get the descriptions from the survey pro file to come into the Access job? When using the converter or through TBC I’m losing the point descriptions.
I'm sitting right now.. having every problem.. data link issues, switched controller, robot, antennas. Now my vertical is out .52'.. I checked everything..
0.52 is the distance between the true height and bottom notch.
@@SurveyingWithRobert Yes your exactly right.I eventually changed that setting in the tablet and it checked much better. Thanks for the response 😀
I will ship you a new DAC hat friend!
Great Stuff Robert!!! Keep it comin brother, are we gonna see anymore FPV stuff? Im an FPV enthusiast and loved seeing that camera on the rc boat
Great video thank you sir

Magic Robert should be your name . Is so nice to hear words as orthometric high and all of that. Some big field stations , where the goal is to have accurate hights an such can be out quite a lot after u perform Helmert transofrmation or any custom 3d best fit or whatever the math people do to get some proper elipsoidal dist. Some people don t get it and I dont know why. A note about what to define small and big specialy in this marvelouse case study u have explained. Would u consider fix STN 1000 and shoot STN1001 with bearing only , so to have a othometric high coming from flat or plan surface that the instrument build on your fix ? PS. Land surveyors don t take just mesuraments , we deal with them and their residuals . We are not lasers or setting out engineers , we transform and create models for ground features . 2) we don t just go and press buttons , we check things out, shoot check shots and check our stations and others when and where informations are given. We deal with flat and curved distances. Thanks a lot Robert !
Easy button is to setup scale factor 1 and roll in this situation. I wish all surveyors understood more about the measurements they are taking. Their boundary decisions are based on those measurements.
Hi Robert, great video, I just wanted to ask, do you think this equipment is suitable for surveying kerb lines on uk roads? the dimensions for the kerb are 255mm x 125 x 914mm and i am expected to survey back of kerb to front of kerb along the surface of road but i am suspicious of the accuracy especially with elevations
You are looking at best case elevations will be 4mm but expect 4 cm’s. Horizontal is usually 4mm or better in some cases. If you need really tight vertical you may want to look at a robot.
So, is remote elevate to pretty much determine the elevation of total station?
It’s to establish an elevation at the instrument.
How would I get laird connection manager to my tsc3 if it isn’t already
If you run two bases, on different frequencies, you can avoid dumping the rover and merely switch radio frequency, and immediately take a subsequent rtk shot, and now you truly have statistically independent connections to that monument or control point without waiting for a sidereal time lapse.
You are referring to duel bases or duel vectors. You have to offset one of the radio signals, both on the same frequency and use swap base.
How much did Will pay you for the advertising?? 😂 helpful video as always!
0$, I get no support or monies. No sponsors!
another option is to email or even text the csv/txt file to the field operator, then they can transfer that file with bluetooth to the DC. this works on the tsc3's as well and it works better on android devices as iphones are finnicky about bluetooth file transfers. of course, the two devices need to be paired and the user will need to open the bluetooth settings on the tsc7 to receive the file. with the tsc3, the Beam "app" under "connections" needs to be set to receive incoming beams (transfers). done it hundreds of times! I do like the live aspect of Teamviewer, though, that is pretty cool
Rob, did you ever get a chance to try defining your null elevation in Trimble Access? Would be very curious to know if that would circumvent this issue.
Wow! The cats meow!
Is there anyone here can help me why my tdc600 is keep on crashing when taking a picture.
Sounds like you may need to update operating software on unit or access.
I have try to access the webpage, the username and password is invalid. How can i access the webpage
Sorry just saw this. Hard reset the receiver if admin and password doesn’t work. Hold power down until satellite light goes off second time.
Nice, hold one closes to the site. Push error to backsite. Measure/Calc new BS Point
Is there another video that you referred to making in the future? about using the data collector to get position for robot
That’s crazy I was just talking to someone about that! Coming soon.
Hi. I'm used to Leika from my last job. I am now using Trimble. I need help moving points. Example, calling point 1101 - 101. In Leika it was cogo rotate. When I do that with Trimble, I'm not getting the same. Anything that helps? Thanks
Not exactly sure what you’re asking. You want to move 1101 to point 101?
Look under cogo, adjust, transformation, translate.
Example: a draftsman creates a rectangle lot 120' x 50'. Then another rectangle that's 30' x 45' to represent envelope corners. But all this is in maybe a 5000x5000 system. I'm trying to figure out how to shoot in the actual property corners, then take the drafters points to place the envelope corners created into the real world.
Is it possible to revert to a previous firmware version? R12i
Not positive but you may be able to with TIM. Try highlighting the software version and select an older version at the top.
@@SurveyingWithRobert I purchased an R12i, but I have a problem with high precision in RTK, in other GNSS I get millimeter precision, while in the new R12i I get 8, 20, 30 centimeters vertically, that's very strange.
@@user-mp1sh4qs1p that is strange. Do a hard reset and see if that helps.
@@SurveyingWithRobert ok, Can you tell me how to reset? Please

Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷 I'm surveyor and I found your video by recommendation from UA-cam. Similar error I found in my daily work when a take the job from another surveyor... Make a video commenting about error from free station or resection (I don't know how you guys call this at USA) vs. backsight - forwardsight using total station after stakeout points from GNSS... Sometimes my angle don't close but my distance is fine...
Thank you for sharing 🎉❤ I particularly loved your explanation. Shalom 😊
Thank you!
where did you get that Total station replica "toy" on your shelf behind you ? that's awesome
I had an issue with Trimble Access this morning, I imported a CVS with GPS shots from one DC(1) into a different DC(2}. After looking at the review job on DC2, the import was successful and they were in a different point range, but my points I had already shot with a GPS on DC2 now have null N, E, and Elev. Is there a particular reason why that happened, even if there were duplicate points to overwrite?
You overwrote a control point. When you see “?” That means there is missing information to create a coordinate. You have the angle and distance but not the origin point to create the information.
I fixed it, I just imported the .jxl file and when I put it in TBC there were no issues!
Love me some TBC! Glad you figured it out!
Do you have a link you can provide for the Atlas website?
If you are on your phone it’s in the notes below the video. Hit “more”
Worth noting that the marksman is also available in a cheaper non laser version. I do a lot of grid line set out on concrete slabs and have considered the marksman. However I acquired a Rothbucher systems set out target (one of their mini prisms on a flat base with neat sliding system). Downside is it relies on the ground being both flat and level, which for the floor slabs I work on is generally the case. It also works on walls, although assuming vertical and smooth. I've not seen the atlas before; is it available in Europe?
I put a link in the notes. He will sell anywhere
I have not had the pleasure of trying the Rothbucher system, it does look very handy when used in the manner you describe. The ATLAS is a bit more of a all terrain beast!
i use the klimax and rothbucher system
I have never used one of these that was premade, although we did fab a jig once out of plywood for anchor bolt layout in footers. Ours was a template for the anchor bolts that had a drilled and tapped hole for the P-Nut to mount in at the column CL so we could set the template square it using the string lines and asbuilt the location then remove the prism leaving the template for the crew to hang the bolts from. I like the magnetic feet on the Atlas, I can see where that would really come in handy on industrial sites. The improvement I see that is needed would be to have those broad feet to be caps that are removeable leaving pointed feet that could be used on uneven surfaces, i can see where the flat feet would not be a solid point of contact for stability in some situations that might allow wobble.
The feet on the ATLAS have 50% more articulation than off the shelf products, they conform very well to uneven surfaces. We will be offering feet that slip over the existing foot that have 3 points of contact.
buddy you just saved my ass in Oaxaca MX with this video😂
